Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel!
On the 20th of February 2021, a United Boeing 777-200, registration N772UA performing flight UA-328 from Denver,CO to Honolulu,HI (USA) with 231 passengers and 10 crew, was in the initial climb out of Denver's runway 25 when the right hand engine's (PW4077) inlet separated associated with the failure of the engine. The crew declared Mayday reporting an engine failure. The aircraft stopped the climb at about 13000 feet, the crew requested to return to Denver after running the checklists. ATC offered any runway, they would make it happen. The aircraft returned to Denver for a safe landing on runway 26 about 23 minutes after departure. The aircraft stopped on the runway for a check by emergency services. Emergency services advised of an active fire within the right hand engine and extinguished the fire a few minutes later. The aircraft was subsequently towed off the runway to a remote parking stand, where passengers disembarked and were bussed to the terminal. There were no injuries.
The engine inlet fell into the neighbourhood of Broomfield,CO, located about 16nm west of Denver near 13th and Elmwood Street, the debris also struck through the roof of an adjacent house.
Broomfield police reported that although debris impacted the neighbourhood and damaged a number of homes, there were no injuries on the ground. The debris field expands over a nautical mile.
Ground observers reported hearing the sound of an explosion like bang, smoke and saw the debris falling down. The aircraft continued flying.

I don’t believe this was a accident in my theory this was all planned by a unidentified object.

Oh Captain my Captain. Regarding the left-hand turn to go back to KDEN. Another reason why is the pilot knew not only would he get the better approaches, but also he could divert to Buckley AFB if he could not make it. Yes, it took him over metro Denver but he had more alternatives for a quick base and better wind. We had 13 gusting 22 that day due to a low front.

Are checklists more important than landing the plane immediately? Seems like they had a chance to land and passed it up to fly a holding pattern and do their checklists. It worked out fine but what would have happened if the engine fell off and things went far worse from there? Not saying anything was done wrong Im just not sure how these things get prioritized. Good video

Cool video and glad everyone made it ok. but I am confused why the pilots chose the furthest runway instead of 35 L?. It's just as long as the other runways and instead of making a shallower sweep to get to 35L, they instead make a longer sweep to go to 26. The furthest runway. Seems 35L would have put them on the ground faster.

Surely PAN PAN would have been the better call instead of MAYDAY? Given that only one engine had failed and structurally the plane was ok but obviously a developing situation? 🤷♂️

I know this doesn't have anything to do with the video, but I would like to share these questions and this message with as many people as possible. 1. What do you think happens to someone after they die? 2. Do you think there is an afterlife? 3. If heaven exists, how do you get there? 4. Do you think you are good enough to get into heaven? I'm definitely not good enough to get into heaven. Here are a few questions to test your goodness: 1. How many lies have you told in your whole life? 2. Have you ever stolen? 3. Have you ever used God's name in vain? 4. Jesus said that "whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart" (Matthew 5:28). Have you ever looked with lust? 5. If you have broken any of these commandments, would you be innocent or guilty on Judgment Day? 6. Would you go to Heaven or Hell? The Bible says that "all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone" (Revelation 21:8) and "Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people - none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). So, if you are guilty of any of the ten commandments, then you are in trouble when Judgment Day comes! Do you know what God did for guilty sinners so that we wouldn't have to go to Hell? 2,000 years ago, God became a human being, Jesus of Nazareth, who suffered and died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day, defeating death. The punishment that we deserve for breaking God's law, Jesus took in our place. He paid the fine that we could never pay so that God can legally set us free by forgiving our sins. He is just, by punishing evil through Jesus' death on the cross, while being rich in mercy towards us. What you have to do is repent, or turn toward God, and believe in Jesus Christ. Don't trust your own goodness, because, as Jesus said, "No one is good - except God alone" (Mark 10:18). Trust alone in the savior. The moment you do that, God will forgive every sin you have ever committed and grant you eternal life, and He will give you a new heart with new desires, so that you will love to do what is right. You will be born again. But you must repent and trust in Jesus. When are you going to do that? Here is a short Christian movie on this subject and depression: fititle.info/one/videot/nJPVqd-RfbN7ppw.html

Serious though the situation was, this was surely a Pan Pan call and not a Mayday. Mayday is for when a ship or aircraft is going down.
Guy SiddonsPäivä sitten
The pilot initially called Mayday but wasn't heard by ATC. The pilot should have called Mayday 3 times, with his callsign, then a further Mayday. That was worked out years ago to try to avoid the situation here where the abbreviated form wasn't heard initially. It didn't affect the outcome here but that initial call is vital to get everyone's attention and really shouldn't have been abbrerviated.

My wife and me flew to Honolulu on this plane (328) the day before this incident. we were sitting right next to this engine and I had the window seat. I watched this engine shaking. The intake cone was vibrating again'st the main housing of the engine. I figure the shaking was just from wind drag and turbulence. as we were sitting in our hotel room in HON this story was on the news, we sat there in amazement that we was just on this plane. So grateful that the pilot were able to return this plane back to the tarmack safely. Close calls.

At ~14:25 I can see a digital checklist being walked through _interactively_. It looks like it's an actual display, behind the throttle. Is this real? Is this part of a Simulator only? Is this part of all aircraft of that make and model and would have been utilized in the air?

What striked me at the very first glance when you where reading out the memory items is how well placed those items are actually. Each item is located further "down" the cockpit on a single axis with minimal offset (A/T). You move from the glareshield at the top down to the fire extinguishers at the very bottom. I think its safe to say it is by design and shows how much work gets put into cockpit ergonomics - even (or especially?) for such instances. Its something you(me, as aviationenthusiast but not pilot) would rarely notice. Frankly speaking its mind blowing to me.

It was interesting to see the plane fly around to what looked like the furthest runway. I'm not sure it was only checklist as the reason for going that far around. The approach to Denver airport 26 that the pilot took is mostly over fields. All the other approaches have much, much higher population densities. Kudos to the pilot for taking the route in that also considered the lowest potential for ground injury if anything were to get much worse on approach.

A FedEx plane lost an engine cowling in a Memphis neighborhood, yet it couldn't be found. The wife saw it in the front yard, thought it was something her husband brought home, and dragged it into the garage.
Joshua Moore2 päivää sitten
They need to make that ring around the main fan blades kevlar, maybe with ceramic and kevlar. A level IV armor ring of Kevlar and ceramic to prevent casualties and extra damage to the aircraft!
KellyClarkson32 päivää sitten
The engine shut down checklist is a read from a quick reference card (QRC) NOT from memory. Actions like these require the other pilot to confirm correct lever or switch is being moved, not just a sequence run from memory. The flying pilot would also guard the adjacent controls for "good engine" with hand to prevent pilot running checklist from potentially shutting down wrong motor.

This was a good explanation until the end "this is why we need a two man cockpit". This is 2021. Women have been pilots for a very long time now. Unlearned comments such as these is why women make up 5% of all pilots, and continues to decrease as we have moved forward in most all other industries except aviation.
